5 easy steps to flip a burger, 1 easy step to eat it

2009 may not be the year of Linux on the desktop, but surely can be appointed as the year of Mono. David Siegel, creator of GnomeDo felt constructive enough to share 5 easy steps to create a viable alternative to Mono. Create a mailing list where people interested in replacing Mono and/or Mono-based applications can subscribe. A quick perusal of Google Blogsearch, Reddit, Digg, and Slashdot will turn up many vociferous individuals who appear to …

Ubuntu censoring rap

Wow, I love rap. I don’t believe that Ubuntu is censoring Mono Opposition. I don’t believe Mono haters infringed the CoC, not in most cases, at least. I do believe Mono opposers sometimes get utterly annoying. I believe also moderators are not careful enough and sometime just close discussions or mark-duplicate the hell-out-of-brainstorm just for the sake of (and because being bored, not having time, and so on). Or just because they can. One thing …

Strip Mono from Ubuntu and prevent it from coming back

Strip Mono from Ubuntu and prevent it from coming back

I’ve recently heard that a discussion about Ubuntu default media player has taken place at the Karmic UDS. News is that Banshee will likely take the place of Rhythmbox sooner or later (possibly in time for Karmic Koala). I don’t really blame the decision, it should be taken as a big compliment to the Banshee development team. I am equally sure, though, that many people won’t like the choice, because of the many concerns that …

The Mono Crusade

The Mono Crusade

World is beautiful, and everything is so peaceful right now. Still I have a weird sensation. May this be just the peace before the storm ? Is something starting ? What ?! A war ?… The Mono Crusade What’s wrong with the Mono fans ? As summer gets near and temperature raises they’re getting annoying like mosquitoes. That’s something I really don’t like. I’m a Mono user myself. Either for birth (Ubuntu includes Mono applications …

Top 3 worthless things in technology

Here’s my top three: ISO As shown by the multiple irregularity claims, ISO is to be considered largely irrilevant. Whereas in the past it has been assumed that an ISO/IEC standard should automatically be considered for use within government, clearly this position no longer stands. – CONSEGI 2008 DECLARATION (Brazil, South Africa, Venezuela,  Ecuador, Cuba and Paraguay) OIN Although I’m still not sure that TomTom paid more than a dollar to Microsoft, the TomTom settlement …

TomTom settles, is Microsoft shooting its own foot ?

TomTom settles, is Microsoft shooting its own foot ?

It’s well known news that TomTom settled on the patents claim from Microsoft. The settlement agreement requires TomTom to remove the infringing parts from its products in 2 years from now. Software Freedom Law Center noted: Today’s settlement between Microsoft and TomTom ends one phase of the community’s response to Microsoft patent aggression, and begins another. On the basis of the information we have, we have no reason to believe that TomTom’s settlement agreement with …

Apple patent uses images taken from a Jailbroken Phone

I am blogging perhaps to much about Apple, lately, so I’ll keep this bloody short. Check out below what Engadget discovered into an Apple pathet.. patent. This picture comes from a patent Apple recently filed. Seems like that even though Iphone Jailbreaking is (Apple claims) unlawful and an ultimate robbery, at least it makes life easier for Apple’s own engineers. All this post infos come and match pretty closely this engadget article. Shame on me! …

How will splashtop change the rules of the game ?

How will splashtop change the rules of the game ?

If you’re into netbooks and latest technology you surely already have heard of Splashtop. Splashtop is an instant on embedded Linux which boots in seconds (I mean, 3-4 seconds) and give the user fast access to web-based features as Web Browser, Skype, online gaming and similar stuff. Actually, the most interesting thing about Splashtop is that, being embedded in the computer’s firmware, it does not substitute to the choosen operative system. It’s just a faster …

Microsoft tax on Linux’s horizon ?

Microsoft tax on Linux’s horizon ?

How can you compete with free ? That’s the question every business publication has been asking to Microsoft lately. Of course priceless software is actractive per-se, so many online journalist and bloggers already foresaw Microsoft’s decline in the OS war. Well, seems like Microsoft had an answer lately, and a good one. In the last few days, perhaps taking advantage of me being offline , Microsoft sued TomTom on 8 software patents. Amongst them 3 …
