How will it be open sourced ?

Completely, with the exceptions of Soyuz (Ubuntu building service) and Codehosting services.

I don’t know precisely what Codehosting is, but I imagine it to be a somewhat replaceable part. Soyuz being kept proprietary, instead, is not really an issue with Launchpad, but one that regards the Ubuntu community.

Open sourcing launchpad is a great news (advocated by many people), and I really hope it will bring the dream of federated bugtrackers around the net closer.

I also hope many plugins could be implemented. A wiki one, for example, is much needed.

Also, Canonical will take care of creating a work flow to let the contributions get into the trunk. They’re not just throwing the code around for everyone to see.

This will be the end of a process long months !

Since the very last bunch of episodes, they’re recording their shows live on UStream. So, yes, you can see their faces and even interact with them via IRC.

The whole thing turns out to be entertaining: I had the chance to attend to the beginning of the last episode and it was pretty cool. Basically, they’ll go through a pre-made schedule and record the whole live. In some cases (like the last episode) other pieces (that time it was an interview) will be added laster and the whole show will be edited to make the whole thing smoother (they also add some crap-alert here and there).

That said, there’s no any calendar for Live shows, they get scheduled one at time, with small anticipation, and the announce is usually written as tittle on the IRC channel.

The next show is today TUESDAY May 12th 2009, at 6pm UTC.

Also notice that UStream makes some use of in-video advertising. I didn’t tried it myself, but the AdBlock Firefox extension is known to block them. If you’re easily annoyed, give it a go.

Someone recently opened a thread on the Ubisoft official forum launching a poll to give Ubisoft people a metric about the need of Linux support in gaming.

As many of us realize, game support is the only thing that prevents young people (but not only) from completely switching to Linux.  Now, I don’t thing this will have any effect, but for sure will be a feedback for the industry that will sum to many other ones.
