Lost in Paris [roundup]

I’m not in Paris, but I’ve been since last round up, so the title actually makes sense. :-) Also I’ve a broken Internet cable, and I have to connect tethering the iPhone to Mac OSX. And both the un-reliability of the Internet and Mac OSX make me feel pretty lost.

Here’s a list of things you may have missed but you really shouldn’t.

Fail !

FAIL !

Bryan Lunduke, author of the (love it or hate it) talk Linux Sucks pulled out a pretty hard reply to a Linux Hater blog post about his talk. Love it or hate it, Linux Hater is well known to mix pretty good points with random rubbish and sometimes personal attacks. And, guess what ? His most successful posts (he lists them in the sidebar) are the ones where he raises good points. The post about Bryan was just a ‘making fun of’ type of post. Not something really worth caring about.

Bryan, there’s really no need nor point in calling him out to have the balls to get out of the anonymity and directly confront with you. It’s not a about courage, it’s just that he has no interest in doing that, with you or anyone else. Also not many people care about knowing the real name of anyone, but just in what he has to say. LinuxHater is pretty right with his answer: “It’s nice that you have nice balls. I still think I make better points.“. At least in your post, you didn’t make any. It really doesn’t work that way.

BoycottNovell DDOSed

BoycottNovellAgain about love and hate. :-) Love it or hate it BoycottNovell actracts a tremendous attention from the community. Then the DDOS came. BoycottNovell has been pretty much unreachable for days, overloaded by a DDOS attack coming from some lamer.

Anyways, a number of changes has been done to enhance a bit the security, and the site is up again.

I really think the attack is a proof of the success of the site (and thuxchick seems to agree with me). Here’s the full story from Roy.

A gorgeous user interface.

JoliCloud, a french start up, is working on a new Linux distribution targetted to Netbooks. Little is known about it, sure it looks nice. :-)

Eeebuntu 3.0 released.

Finally released the 3.0 version, finally based on Ubuntu Jaunty. I hope to be able to try it soon. Download it from here.

Eeebuntu

Some one please tell them to put a release announcement on the main page along with a feature list, next time :-)

Phun matures, and it’s not really longer for kids

If you don’t know what Phun is, then know it’s a phisics simulator. But a fun one. You can draw object in real time, and mess with them in total freedom. It’s not really a game, yet is funny ! You decide what you want to build and what you want to accomplish.

Phun in action
While being pretty simple at the beginning, Phun it’s getting more and more complicated. It requires more dedication to learn it, but offers more and more possibilities as well. It’s a free-of-charge proprietary (source not released) program, so know you won’t find it in the repositories soon.

Instead, you can download it from here.

Also, check this video (weirdly enough, I didn’t have the chance to check the video myself, please tell me if it’s good) ;-)

By the way

Feel free to point interesting stuff to be blogged about in the comments !

This seems like a great time to subscribe my RSS !

Boycottnovell has got enemies, but they’re ones that post with no proof, all innuendos, nothing they can prove if called on:

    http://adterrasperaspera.com/blog/2009/05/20/boycott-novell-attacks-itself-to-get-attention/

asked if he can prove that DDOS was self inflicted; answer was “I can’t.”

@Andrew: enemies often come for a reason. And the reason is not necessary that one is bad.
Take a look to this comment. This girl is an editor for a big linux news site. We have no proof she’s saying the truth obviously, but what she affirms is quite likely to be true.

I also can testify (and everyone can look it up at the IRC logs on the boycottnovell website) that those guys spent a large amount of time looking for a solution to the attacks.
